Structured Packing

Structured packing for high-efficiency mass transfer

PunchTech manufactures structured packing for distillation, absorption, stripping and separation applications where efficient vapor-liquid contact and controlled pressure drop are critical to process performance.

We support new packed columns, replacements, revamps and EPC projects with packing, associated column internals, engineering review and installation support.

Large contact surface, open flow paths

Structured packing consists of systematically arranged packing elements designed to provide a large contact surface between liquid and vapor while maintaining open flow paths through the packed bed.

The appropriate packing configuration depends on the process duty, hydraulic loading, pressure-drop requirement, column geometry and operating conditions. PunchTech reviews available process and mechanical information before defining the manufacturing scope.

Typical considerations

  • Required separation efficiency
  • Liquid & vapor loading
  • Operating pressure & temperature
  • Allowable pressure drop
  • Column diameter
  • Available bed height
  • Operating range & turndown
  • Fouling tendency
  • Material compatibility
  • Liquid distribution requirements

Complete Structured Packing System

More than the packing itself

PunchTech can supply the associated internals reviewed as part of the complete packed-column arrangement. The scope may include:

  • Structured packing elements
  • Segmented packing blocks
  • Liquid distributors
  • Liquid redistributors
  • Liquid collectors
  • Packing support plates & grids
  • Bed limiters & hold-down systems
  • Support & transition components
  • Mist eliminators
  • Assembly & installation drawings
Applications

Where structured packing is considered

Structured packing can support a range of separation and low-pressure-drop duties.

Final packing selection should be based on the approved engineering basis.
